*Subject:* Pool #5/shutdown talk at MS-13 roundtable
Trump tough talk:
"I'd love to see a shut down if we can't get this stuff taken care of...
If we have to shut it down because the Democrats don't want safety...let's shut it down."
He mentioned a shutdown several times in response to comments by Chairman McCaul.
Trump listened intently. Sometimes arms folded. Sometimes hands clasped.
Melendez. The problems include catch and release policies. ICE has arrested 428 MS-13 members in the last three months "and there are many more. We continue to arrest..And since we haven't been able to shut down the pipeline they continue to come into our country."
Trump said the problem can't be solved because Democrats won't cooperate.
"Everything you do is illegal. You can't touch. You can't do anything."
Director Francis Cissna, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services complained that gang members can't be removed from the US "merely because they're a gang member." Suggested that authorities hands are tied until they commit a murder. Gang membership isn't on the list of disqualifying characteristics when immigrants apply for citizenship. He asked Congress to change that. "This is untenable... That is a horrendous loophole."
Trump wants "Very tough provisions for coming into this country."
McCaul says his first bull was to end catch and release. "We now have the political will in Washington to finally fix this problem." Need to end the visa lottery system "that totally makes no sense....I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have the leadership at this table."
