While the stage was being set up for POTUS’s speech, the large screen behind the podium played a video that included clips of the Women’s March and related to climate change. At one point, the narrator talked about the importance of “not building walls” and working together. The video was unrelated to POTUS’s speech.
The crowd began filing into the hall for POTUS’s speech more than an hour before it began, with long lines snaking around the lobby outside. Hall was at full capacity by the time POTUS took the stage, with 1,600 attendees expected.

Before POTUS took the stage, Swiss band dressed in military style blue and red uniforms assembled on stage and played a song. (I have tweeted a photo @rebeccaballhaus.) POTUS and WEF founder Klaus Schwab stood to the right of the band with their arms at their sides and listened solemnly.
After the song wrapped, POTUS shook the hand of one of the band members and then approached the podium before Schwab redirected him to a seat on the other side of the stage.
Schwab introduced POTUS. “You cannot imagine how much we are looking forward to your speech,” he said.”I’m aware that your strong leadership is open to misconceptions and biased interpretations,” Schwab added, eliciting boos from the audience.POTUS took the podium at 2:06 p.m. Speech is open press. One additional note from yesterday’s pooler: The reporter who fed him a quote from POTUS arrival at WEF yesterday sends along a correction.POTUS was asked “Are you going to be well,” not “Are you going to be treated well.”
