After leaving the holding room, your fellow press members and White House wranglers scrambled around the field for 30 minutes of opening festivities.
We watched the Army and Navy parachutists drop out of the sky, falling from the heavens only to meet a graceful landing on the grass field. The respective sides cheered. There was much rejoicing.
The president and Defense Secretary Mattis stood on the field for the presentation of the national anthem. Shortly after the anthem ended, a cannon fired from the Army’s sideline.
Representatives from both teams and the military gathered at midfield for the coin toss. The president flipped the ceremonial coin. Army won the toss, kicking of the 119th meeting between the Black Knights and the Navy Midshipmen.
POTUS made his way to the Army sideline, stopping to shake hands with Army players that were cheering as he passed the sideline. He sat two rows back and shook hands with those in the crowd. It took under 3 minutes for Army to score the first points. The score remains at 7-0 at the time this report sent from my account.
We are back in the holding room for the next 45 minutes. The schedule appears to be rather fluid, but we will keep you updated.
