Subject: Travel pool #9 - POTUS comments on Perry and Mulvaney

It was hard to hear but we’ve played back. Here’s some quotes:

"Mick is a good man," he said. "I have a lot of confidence in him."

On Rick Perry’s resignation…

“We already have his replacement. Rick has done a fantastic job. But it was time. “

When will he leave?

"Toward the end of the year. At the end of the year."
"In fact I was going to announce it tonight at the rally."

"We have the man that we're going -- in this case it's a man that we're going to be putting in Rick's place. We'll be announcing it very shortly."

Asked if he was surprised about Rick Perry he said…

“No I knew six months ago. He told me at the end of the year he’d like to go and he’s got some ideas about doing something else. He’s a terrific guy. He’s here with us now.”

“Rick and I have been talking for six months. In fact I thought he might go a bit sooner. But he’s got some very big plans. He’s going to be very successful. We have his successor we’ll announce it pretty soon.

Denied replacement was the governor of Texas or the governor of Alaska.

Was asked about Atatiana Jefferson shooting in Fort Worth…
“No I think it was terrible. I think it was a terrible thing.”

Asked if he was any closer to sending Anne Sacoolas back to the UK – he paused but didn’t answer.
